Germany: There are no conditions for elections according to European standards

-

Germany shares the opinion of the European Commission on the state of preparations for parliamentary elections in Macedonia, that it will take further reforms before there is an opportunity for elections in accordance with European standards, announced the German Embassy in Skopje on Thursday.

The Embassy urges all political parties involved to make an effort and show political will to find a common solution that will help the country move forward towards European integration.

What is said in the statement by the Embassy is especially for the ruling party, VMRO-DPMNE.

“The responsibility to adopt the necessary conclusions from the current state of electoral preparations, lies with the signatories of the Przhino Agreement. The Federal Government calls on the concerned parties to exert effort, constructively and with the necessary political will to find a common solution that will move the country forward towards European integration. This applies primarily to the ruling VMRO-DPMNE party and they must acknowledge that the elections will help the country but only if they are previously created for their fair conduct, and in accordance with European standards”, reads the statement from the German Embassy.

They added that to ensure equal opportunities for all parties, a reliable voters’ list is required, reforms to the media, which have not yet been implemented, and the distinction between party and state.
