“Freedom House”: Macedonia is a Partly Free Country

In a report done by “Freedom House”, which looks into freedom across the globe, in 2015, with a rating of 3.5 Macedonia is ranked among countries who are ‘partly free’. Political rights are evaluated with a 4, and civil liberties and evaluated with a 3.

The American Organization in the newly published stated that “the downward trend in Macedonia is due to further information on the serious shortcomings in the elections in 2014, which led to a parliament boycott from the opposition.” According to “Freedom House” to contribute “new information related to the scandal of the widespread government pursuing og political and religious leaders, journalists and citizens.”

Because the ratings are related to the elections, “Freedom House” in the report is estimates that Macedonia belongs to the category of electoral democracies. The country remains in the category of partly free countries, together with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Montenegro in the Balkans.
