Corona virus unites all fact checking services in the fight against disinformation

-

An army of at least 48 organizations worldwide and united as part of the International Fact-Checking Network working on revealing disinformation concerning the corona virus 2019.

According to IFCN, one of the widest spread disinformation is that a vaccine has been made ready for this dangerous virus that began spreading from Wuhan, China to other cities in the country and worldwide, and next one according to the number of false information is the source of this fatal sickness. Conspiracy theories rank third.

The IFCN will function until the virus is spreading and the facts can be checked on social media networks through following hashtags #CoronaVirusFacts и #DatosCoronaVirus.

The first wave of disinformation is that the virus was patented. In USA, the organizations-participants have revealed tens of posts on social networks and have proven that at the moment there is no vaccine against the virus and that all disinformation in this category are connected to previously known types of corona virus.

The second wave of false information has come out of Taiwan. In its effort to protect themselves and the others from the corona virus, the people have begun to spread all kinds of ways to protect themselves and some of them are really bizarre. The Taiwanese center for checking facts has exposed facts that claimed that acidic acid can be used for protection from the virus.

“The message is clear: If there is no confirmation from medical authorities, do not spread information about death cases or new corona virus infections” IFCN recommends.
