Bregu: RCC expects the accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania to start this year

-

“The Regional Council for Cooperation is sincerely happy by the encouragements arriving from the European Union and we expect the accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania to start this year” said the RCC’s General Secretary, Majlinda Bregu at the meeting of the Western Balkans’ Foreign Ministers in New York.

On the other hand, Said Bregu, the region has to show its determination towards the European way and a political will for solving bilateral issues that influence the whole region and are creating a negative picture of the Western Balkans.

RCC’s stance was confirmed by Brussels as well. Machej Popovski, the Deputy General Manager at the EC’s Direction has repeated that the opening of the negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania is in the best interest of Europe itself since without the integration of the whole Balkans there will not be a stable and secure Europe.

The meeting was organized on the margins of the 74th session of the UN’s General Assembly and all participants have pledged for starting of the negotiations stressing that it would be important not only for all countries but for the region as a whole.
