Basha: The situation in Albania is not similar to that of Macedonia – it is worse!

-

Today, Lulzim Basha, the Democratic Party leader, and also one of the strongest figures of the opposition, forgot his diplomatic dictionary and called the Law for Vetting prosecutors and judges a “Mafia process”.

He accused high ranking diplomats of working for Prime Minister Edi Rama and of “hijacking” EU experts working on judicial reforms. Although he mentioned no names, he addressed Knut Fleckenstein, who is against the formation of a technocratic government, like what happened last year in Macedonia.

Basha added that he agrees with Knut Fleckenstein, that the situation is not similar to what’s happening in Macedonia, as it is much worse. He repeated that Albanians will not go to the polls with a Prime Minister “who is the chief commander of a narco-army.”

The vetting process is a key element for the implementation of judicial reforms in Albania. These reforms are also crucial to open accession negotiations with the EU.
