We want clean air, not a panoramic wheel and bohemian streets, say eco-activists

-

The introduction of a special traffic regime for vehicles, free public transportation all winter, more inspections, a penalty of 10 years imprisonment for destruction of any kind of vegetation, stop all projects like the Panoramic wheel, bohemian streets and styrofoam facades, and the re-direction of finances for the treatment of people that are sick due to air-pollution. These are some of the 17 requests that several hundred citizens and eco-activists have submitted to Mayor of Skopje Koce Trajanovski at this evening’s protest against the enormous air pollution which on some days exceeds the permitted amount by 20 times.

The protest started at the City park where citizens and activists marched to the Government building. The protesters carried banners that said “Air for everyone”, “Don’t you have kids?” “Filters instead of tricks” and “When I grow up I want to breathe”.

People demand that the authorities, change their priorities and make their first priority finding a solution to the air pollution.

According to activists, in Mayor Trajanovski’s recent statements, he has not offered any solution for overcoming the problem and shows no promises for making the air better for the people.

Activists told Trajanovski that it is time for urgent measures and that despite plans for the long term, it is necessary to find solutions that will immediately yield results.
