The new Greek Government will continue to maintain the existing national Greek red line regarding the name dispute. As he presented the government’s program, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said it was important to find a solution to the name dispute and announced that efforts to find a solution to the name with geographic determinant for general use – erga omnes – will continue.
– It is important to find a mutually acceptable solution on the name differences with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the negotiations at the United Nations, based on a compound name with geographic determinant for general use – Tsipras said, referring to the Greek foreign policy and relations with Macedonia.
It was the only thing he said about the name dispute, which is found at the end of the speech for the program of the Government, after all economic and financial priorities of the new coalition government of SYRIZA and Independent Greeks.
Speaking of Greek diplomacy, Tsipras said that the new Government will try to lead a dynamic foreign policy that will restore the dignity of Greece and the Greek people. He announced that, above all, foreign policy will protect Greek interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the state on a bilateral level as well, as well as in all international institutions in which Greece participates. As Tsipras announced, Greece will continue to try to keep active and influential role as a regional factor of stability in the region affected by numerous conflicts and military hotspots.
