French and German diplomats are actively preparing summit in Minsk with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, hoping to end the bloody conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
Diplomats from France, Germany, Ukraine and Russia today in Berlin are working on a peace plan, which is presented as the last chance for Ukraine before the summit in Minsk on Wednesday.
Preparations for the peace plan were last night agreed in a phone conversation between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the presidents of France, Ukraine and Russia, Francois Hollande, Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin.
However, the Russian leader said that some of the items of the peace plan should be reviewed on Wednesday.
– The summit will take place if we can agree on a number of items of the plan, on which we are extensively discussing in the last few days – said Putin to his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.
Key proposal of Berlin and Paris as part of the peace plan are ceasefire, separation of the warring parties in the east of Ukraine with the possible deployment of “blue helmets” of the UN and negotiations for federalization of the country, similar to Dayton.
