Borisov: Macedonians still need to mature for a negotiations date with the EU

-

In Brussels this week, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov told reporters that Macedonians still need to mature in order to get a date to start EU accession talks, Bulgarian news agency BGNES reported.

“They need to fix much more. Don’t get me wrong, but as long as they dispute whether Goce Delchev is Bulgarian or Macedonian – that is a small issue for some heroes who were to Bulgaria and Macedonia, for their homeland, and our most beautiful songs are related to them. And the opposition is constantly asking me what the Commission is doing. Let them mature”, said Borisov before the start of the European Council meeting in Brussels.

He then clarified his position on the “hostility” from the country and his expectations for compromise.

“I can not allow it – Bulgaria did everything for them to reach the sky. Now they will have to make a compromise at the Commission and with their anti-Bulgarian rhetoric”, said Borisov, referring to the joint Macedonian-Bulgarian Commission on Historical Issues and Textbooks.
