With attention, the Government “reviewed” the European Commission report, which was prepared by a group of experts led by Reinhard Priebe, confirmed government’s spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgjiev, adding that “the recommendations of the commission will be thoroughly investigated” and used in reforms required for European integration.
– We reviewed the report with attention. The commission’s recommendations will be thoroughly investigated and, of course, used in the reforms we continuously implement for the application of European standards and approaches to the European Union. We will use this time to promote in all areas of the negotiations for EU membership. Reports and discussions of the EU Council are an opportunity for intensive dialogue. It is the mobilization of additional administration, which runs the reforms. We will do our best to familiarize European Commission and its experts with the situation, the challenges and the progress we expect in the next period until the autumn progress report as best as possible. The goal remains: domestic improvements of standards and, finally, a formal start of negotiations for membership of the Republic of Macedonia with the European Union, which we already informally lead – said Gjorgjiev.
Expert report, as expected, should be on the agenda of today’s government session.
The report of the European Commission noted serious shortcomings in five areas, i.e. communications interception, law enforcement and prosecution, external oversight by independent bodies, elections and media.
In it, among other things, is stated that the tapes of intercepted conversations, which the opposition for months posting was made by the national intelligence service and its content refers to illegal activity and abuse of power by senior government officials.
