The statue of Alexander the Great was removed from Skopje’s airport late last night, after the sign “Alexander the Great” was removed several days ago.
The monument at the airport was set up in 2011, after “TAV” became the operator.
The decision to rename the airport and the motorway was made at a Government session in early February this year, and was made to show good faith to Greece.
The Skopje Airport was named “Alexander the Great” in December 2006, by the previous Government. Two years later, the motorway was renamed into “Alexander the Great”.
The new name of the airport is the International Airport “Skopje”, and the motorway “Friendship”.
