The POINT Conference starts with a discussion about the elections in the Balkans during the pandemic

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the leading regional annual conference about political responsibility and new technologies – POINT is returning with a new, online format: POINT Talks. Today, the 5th of February 2021,, starting at 15h, the first of series of events will take place i.e. the online panel discussion on the subject of “Elections during the pandemic: Case Balkan.”

The event will be dedicated to the election process that took place during the pandemic in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Hercegovina, with debate about the many challenges that arose with the implementation of the election process such as voters’ safety at the election polls, the influence of the pandemic on the voter turnout, official measures that were enforced before and after the measures, but also the ways the government reaction to the pandemic can influence the election results in certain cases.

The following speakers will take part in tomorrow’s online panel discussion: Beata Martin-Rozumiłowicz is currently the Director for Europe and Eurasia at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES; Filip Stojanovski, a Director for Partnership and Resource Development in the Metamorphosis Foundation; Milica Kovachević, President of the Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) from Montenegro; Pavle Dimitrijević, Head of CRTA’s Legal Department from Serbia; Sandra Benčić, MP in Croatian Parliament of the Možemo platform, and Damjan Mančevski, a former Minister of Information Society and Administration in Macedonia.

In order to follow this panel discussion, it is necessary to register here. The event can be followed through the online platform including a live link on POINT Conference’s web page. The interested parties can register through Facebook where they will be notified before the discussion starts.

Otherwise, this year’s POINT Conference will take place digitally which will help the initiative to continue and to develop until all conditions for organizing a conference live will be favorable. Apart from POINT Talks, the POINT Conference will stage the following online events: 60 seconds interviews, live story, including various presentations and workshops through which varied content will be offered through a selection of a subject of the month. Apart from the online panel discussions and presentations that will be taking place live, interviews with relevant guests and panelists, this year’s issue will offer many topics from the previous POINT conferences that are linked with the topic of the month.

The POINT conference is the biggest event of this type in the region, it presents a platform for the civil society that is instigating the use of new technologies and is organized by the ACTION SEE network, which members are “Zašto Ne” from Bosnia and Hercegovina, CDT Center for Democratic Transition, CRTA CDT – Center for Democratic Transition from Montenegro, The CRTA Center for research, transparency, and accountability from Serbia and Metamorphosis Foundation from North Macedonia.
