Parliament decides not to cancel Gruevski’s MP mandate

Parliament decided not to cancel MPs mandate to former prime minister and former party leader of VMRo-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski.

Out of 87 present MPs, 58 have voted for taking away the mandate and 28 against. In order to cancel the mandate to an MP a two third majority is needed or a minimum of 80 MPs.

The proposal for canceling the mandate to MP Gruevski was submitted to the MPs by the Committee for the mandate – immunity affairs on basis of the received notification from the Basic Court Skopje 1, for the verdict where Gruevski was convicted to a jail for two years in the case named as “Tank”.

with a majority of votes, the Committee recommended cancellation of the mandate, but a two third majority wasn’t achieved today.

The MPs decision not to cancel Gruevski’s mandate will not postpone his sentence.
