Tensions build up on the border as a migrant dies near Idomeni

Today a migrant died of electrocution and two were injured in another clash of migrants and refugees on the Greek-Macedonian border, where in recent days the situation is tense as countries along the West Balkan route, including Macedonia, have closed their borders for economic migrants and only allowing refugees from crisis hot-spots and war torn counties, such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, reported the Balkan Service “Radio Free Europe“.

Information on the migrant who was electrocuted the Greek media have been covering it so far, because, according to the newspaper “Kathimerini“, the incident occurred in Idomeni, on the Greek side of the border.

According to preliminary information the Greek police spokesman announced, the dead migrant was a 22-year-old citizen of Morocco, who has suffered after he had gone on the wagon, which was parked under high-voltage lines near the border.

As the Balkan Service “Radio Free Europe” reports, a group of migrants who laid down his body to the ground and covered with a sheet, then a group of Moroccans took the body and went to the border were stopped by the Greek police with tear gas.

Meanwhile, officials of the Greek police informed that migrants have now three days to leave the vicinity of Idomeni.

According to the “Kathimerini” in Idomeni there are currently approximately 6,000 refugees and economic migrants.

On the border, according to the newspaper, a train and two or three buses have already arrived to transport migrants back to Athens and Thessaloniki, but as the newspaper “Kathimerini” says, hardly any of them will want to go back.
