A record number of 243 persons have graduated in the social science PhD programs in the previous year which represent an increase of 16.3% compared to 2017.
The largest number of PhDs come from the area of social sciences with 34,9%, and is followed by medical sciences, 28.8%, humanistic sciences with 18.5% and the remaining are persons that have received PhDs in the area of technical-technological, mathematical and biotechnical sciences.
The number of women who have defended their doctorate thesis during 2018 is 141 candidates or 58% of the total number of persons that were awarded PhDs in 2018. Out of the total number of persons who were awarded PhDs, the largest percentage or 28.8% work falls in the education field.
The State Statistics Bureau data reveal that in the period between 2013 and 2018, 1320 persons were awarded PhDs where 529 were awarded social sciences’ PhDs.
