North Macedonia’s Security Council extends the state of emergency for another 30 days

-

Upon Government’s proposal, during today’s session, the Security Council adopted a decision where the state of emergency is prolonged for another 30 days.

In the aftermath of the Council’s session, in his addressing, President Stevo Pendarovski said that the current state of emergency ends today and due to the end of the deadline of 30 days since it was called for, there is no legal basis to be formally extended.

“Therefore, on basis of a new proposal by the Government, and in a situation when the Parliament is not operational, I will sign a new decision on declaring a new state of emergency for a period of 30 days, nationwide. But, this decision will not lessen the responsibility of all relevant political factors in the state clearly and publicly to state their opinions regarding this issue because by the middle of May we shall have the same legal dilemmas” said Pendarovski.

Regarding the curfew of 80 hours that is ahead of us, the President concluded that at the moment we are part of a group of countries in Europe with most strict measures.

The president also stressed that Macedonia like the rest of the world will have to find a way how to function with the virus and all of the necessary measures and restrictions.
