Nimetz will arrive in Skopje from 1-4 July and will travel to Athens immediately after

The United Nations’ Special Representative for the negotiations between Macedonia and Greece regarding the name dispute, Matthew Nimetz, will visit Skopje in the period between 1- 4th of July, announced the office of the UN General Secretary’s spokesperson.

As it is stated, Nimetz is coming to Skopje on the invitation of the Macedonian Government to discuss the ways to achieve advancement in the talks with the mediation of the UN in order to find an appropriately acceptable solution for the name dispute for both sides.

The announcement also states that on the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Greece, it is planned for Nimetz to travel to Athens immediately after visiting Skopje.

This is a Nimetz’s first visit in the region since July 2014 when he announced that he expects progress in the negotiations. Recently, in an interview for a Greek daily newspaper, he said that the process of solving the name dispute should be put higher on the agenda of the new Macedonian government.
