No agreement between Greece and the Eurogroup

-

The second attempt at an agreement between Greece and the Eurogroup failed. Greece rejects the proposal of European partners, which require it to continue to implement the commitments agreed in the Memorandum of austerity, i.e. to continue the austerity program in full. These conditions of the European side, according to the Greek Government, are totally unacceptable.

According to information from the Prime Minister’s office, today’s proposal of the Eurogroup was quite different than the one last week agreed between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and President of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem.

– Insisting of the new Greek Government to continue with the Memorandum of austerity is illogical and unacceptable. The fulfillment of this program is no longer available for negotiation at the EU Summit. All who mention it are just wasting time – say sources from the Prime Minister’s office and before the conclusion of the meeting of the Eurogroup, pessimistically commenting that it is impossible to reach a new agreement with such European requirements.

At the press conference after the meeting, Dijsselbloem said they are giving a period of one week to the Greek authorities to consider and request a new meeting to negotiate an extension of the program. The head of the Eurogroup underlined that the EU will agree to change the program and its development, but Greece must understand that there are certain obligations that must be met.

According to a document released by “Reuters”, Eurogroup requested improving tax policy, continuation of privatization, market reforms and employment sectors, as well as change of labor and pension rights.
