The Ambassador of Albania in Macedonia, Fatos Reka was summoned yesterday for talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the frequent insulting statements and comments by Republic of Albania’s officials that are aimed at the Republic of Macedonia, said today the MFA.
“At the meeting, it was stressed that the statements of the president of the government (Edi Rama) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania (Ditmir Bushati) regarding binationality and changing the constitutional order of Republic of Macedonia are an open interference in the Republic of Macedonia’s internal affairs. The labeling of Macedonians as “Slav-Macedonians” is insulting and discriminatory towards the Macedonians and all the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia”, said MFA press release.
During the talks with the Albanian Ambassador, it was stressed that “such messages are a serious provocation on the good neighborly relations that we wish to harbor” and that they are cause” a long –term damage to the relations in the region and they only instigate extremist rhetoric.”
“What we need in the region is a gathering around the integration into the European Union, peace, and economic prosperity. That is why we appeal for stopping all provocations, to respect the sovereignty, and to work more on the good neighborly relations for the benefit of all in the region”, said the MFA.
