Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, apparently strongly opposed the idea of European sanctions on Macedonia at yesterday’s Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.
According to Kotzias, the EU will not help Macedonia through sanctions and public pressure, but by acting through more diplomatic channels aimed at developing a culture of compromise, democratic dialogue, and democracy in the work of the media.
In statements to reporters by Kotzias after the meeting, he stressed that the problem over the name dispute is due to the lack of democracy and the ability to compromise and has nothing to do with the Greek veto in the solution to the name dispute, according to Kotzias, these issues are major obstacles to start accession talks for Macedonia.
