Kocijančić: A Parliament Speaker must be elected urgently and the uncertainty must end

-

Today, the European Commission again urged for the election results to be respected and President Gjorge Ivanov to reconsider his decision.

“As the EU has said repeatedly, the results of the recent parliamentary elections must now be respected, the current uncertainty ended and a government must be established without further delay, based on the parliamentary majority that is there”, stated for “Meta” Maja Kocijančić, the spokesperson for the European Commission when she answered the question “whether the EU is planning on taking measures to unblock the crisis and whether there is a possibility of the arrival of new senior EU officials in Macedonia?”

She recalled earlier statements made by the High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn and the European Parliament, on several occasions encouraging the President to reconsider his position urgently.

“We encourage the President to reconsider his position urgently. We now expect all political leaders and institutions to let the democratic process run its course. This includes notably the election of the new Speaker of Parliament, without any further delay”, said Kocijančić.
