The villagers from the Shar-Mountain village Jelovjane will defend the last water source from which the village is supplied with drinking water with human shield. According to the local community of Jelovjane the Municipality Bogovinje, wants to illegally, through the grant program for new water supply system, take the water from the only source of their surroundings and to divert it to other villages. By this they will remain without a single drop of water, the pastures and fields will dry up and the only way out would be to move out from this village, which exists mainly from agriculture and livestock, say the residents of Jelovjane.
– They try persistently to take the last drop of water. Previously they took 13 sources from our surroundings, and now they want the last one – said Ramiz Fejzulai, president of the local community from the village Jelovjane.
– In a way we are beemg pushed to leave the village. After they took a number of springs for the needs of other villages, more than 100 hectares of fertile land dried out and now we cannot use it, because we have no water. Because of this we decrease the livestock – said Nedzat Fejzulai resident of Jelovjane.
Fejzuali added that water from the spring will not be used for drinking, but for the needs of factory for bottling of water, which is yet to be built.
– While we will die of thirst, someone will get rich – said Fejzulai.
Mayor of Bogovinje Hazbi Idrizi, said that the springs with the water on Shar Planina belong to all residents of the municipality Bogovinje and are not owned by the village Jelovjane. He claims that the project new water supply system will not cause any harm to Jelovjane. The springs of water are used equally to all villages in need and it is the position of the municipality, stated Idrizi.
