Macedonian MPs have collected 3 million euros during the period between 2015 and 2019, revealed the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC). The annual sum has decreased from 770.000 euros in 2015 to 390.000 euros last year, mainly due to informing on part of the media and the pressure from the general public, said the SCPC’s President Biljana Ivanovska.
Even though the MPs are entitled to free train rides, none of the MPs have used this option.
According to the commission, 23 MPs who have their own accommodation or accommodation owned by close family have collected travel costs .
SCPC thinks that the legal and the sublegal regulations should be adjusted in order for these costs to be regulated.
The MPs that don’t live in Skopje have the right to rent an apartment in the amount of 400 euros and 100 euros for monthly costs. Only three MPs have used this right until 2017 and since then 15 MPs are using this opportunity. MPs have the right to rent if they don’t have own an apartment of at least 80 m2.
