If everyone works with dedication for elections on June 5, they can be credible says Baily

-

American Ambassador Jess Baily in front of the EU-Info Centre stated that it was a good decision that an agreement has been reached on early parliamentary elections to be held on June 5th, and he pointed out that if everyone works with dedication and play by the rules, the elections can be credible and to put an end to the political crisis.

When asked by the media what if one party decided to boycott the elections, he answered that their view on the matter is, that every party should participate in the elections.

When he was asked whether it was true that the there will be no more negotiations over the media, Baily said that reforms and the freedom of the press are a priority and of great importance for the elections.

“Reforms within the media, freedom of the media remain a very important part not just during elections but as priority urgent reforms from the European Union. How the media and the media environment will be assessed depends on how you all will cover these very important elections. You all signed the code of conduct for how you are reporting the elections, and eventually the most important issue will be how you yourselves will perform your duties and work and will help the Macedonian citizens to be informed with a full diversity of views”, said Jess Baily.
US Ambassador praised the work of the European Union in the negotiations and said that cooperation between the EU and US in this process was very important.

With him before the EU Info Centre was MEP Richard Howitt and the Deputy EU Ambassador to Macedonia.
