Hahn: Party leaders’ can not agree on a date for early elections

-

EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, after the leaders’ meeting in Przhino said that parties had not come to an agreement because three of the parties agreed on early parliamentary elections to be held on April 24, but one party was against it. Hahn stressed that Macedonia is in a very difficult situation.

“The country is in a very difficult situation. What we saw in 2015 has continued into 2016. I believe that the Government, the political elite and Parliament should pay attention to this very serious situation which affects the country’s economy and its Euro-Atlantic perspective. Today I understood that it was not possible to reach an agreement between all political parties to hold elections on April 24. However, I do expect all parties to adhere to the agreement signed on  June 2 / July 15. I assured all parties that the European institutions are here to help the country. I want to reassure every citizen, no matter what the final decision of the political parties is concerning the date for early elections, we will assist in the organization and will monitor the situation the elections”, said Hahn, also adding he would not rule out the possibility to visit Macedonia again.
