German Foreign Ministry believes that the prosecution of opposition leader Zoran Zaev challenges the functioning of the democratic opposition, reports “Vest“.
“The federal government is very concerned about the prosecution of the Macedonian opposition leader Zoran Zaev and three others over an alleged coup attempt. Thus, the functioning of the democratic opposition is challenged.
We call the Macedonian authorities to investigate these serious allegations in a fair and transparent process in accordance with international standards, in which, of course, the presumption of innocence is most important. The independence of the judiciary and law enforcement authorities will now be of the utmost importance,” stated a spokesman for the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs for “Vest“.
