Vajgl, Kukan and Howitt request investigation

-

Through a joint statement, today reacted the three MEPs who mediated the negotiations between VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM in Brussels, Ivo Vajgl, Edward Kukan and Richard Howitt.

“We are deeply concerned about the events in Kumanovo this weekend. We condemn all violent actions against public order and attempts to destabilize the situation in the country. We express our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. These events must be clearly and transparently investigated, in accordance with the rule of law. We want also to call Macedonian public not to allow further escalation of tensions,” reads the statement.

They call on all political leaders in the country to act responsibly and refrain from making statements that could disturb the stability of the country.

“Once again we reiterate that all allegations of wrongdoing that were published must be seriously investigated, and those who are found to be responsible should bear responsibility for their actions, with full respect for the principles of transparency, impartiality and respect for the presumption of innocence. Also we request political partners to increase efforts to engage in serious political dialogue at the highest level to resolve the political crisis. We are ready to continue to provide our support and facilitate the dialogue which should lead to reduction of political tensions and addressing the shortcomings of the political system in Macedonia. Our common goal is to once again see Macedonia on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration,” reads the statement of the three MEPs.
