European Commission implores parties to adopt the electoral law as soon as possible

The European Commission does not want to comment on whether they will become more actively involved in addressing the new stalemate in negotiations which began over the electoral law, nor have they commented on whether senior officials or the Commissioner Johannes Hahn Macedonia are planning to visit.

The spokeswoman Maya Kocijancic for the EU Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, when asked by journalists she repeated yesterday’s statement, emphasizing that political leaders should soon reach an agreement.

“We regret that the parties have failed to finalize electoral reforms, despite the progress made at the meeting of the working groups. We urge the leaders of the four political parties to reach an agreement as soon as possible, it would be desirable even today. As we all know, the election date is approaching. The electoral law must be endorsed as soon as possible and the start of its implementation as elections begin in April. It is a process that should be well conducted, and elections that should be well prepared”, said Maja Kocijancic.
