During today’s press conference, the Director of the Infectious Diseases’ Clinic in Skopje, North Macedonia, Dr. Milena Stevanovik said that when it comes to COVID-19, it is evident that obesity poses a seriously high risk.

“Our nation is such, we have a surplus of weight, but the people with obesity are more at risk. I don’t think that was seriously considered,” said Dr. Stevanovik.

According to Stevanovik, a medium severe COVID-19 clinical picture is treated in a period of 16 days, and for more severe cases, the recovery takes longer. The patients with a severe situation, as she said, have consequences and the treatment takes longer.

“Each bed at the clinic is used rationally including the modular hospital. It has happened that the clinic to be filled with patients suddenly, but at the same time to have patients discharged from the hospital. As soon as a bed becomes available, it is cleaned and the rooms are disinfected so that another patient may be received and this is happening quickly,” said Stevanovik.

She also said that unfortunately, the mortality rate is high.
