Avramopoulos withdrew from the leadership of New Democracy

-

Dimitris Avramopoulos resigned from his position as vice-president of New Democracy. Greek Commissioner, who was considered as right hand man and a close associate of Antonis Samaras, noted that he is withdrawing due to the amount of the obligations it has as EU Commissioner.

Avramopoulos also expressed criticism for the failure of New Democracy on the elections, commenting that in January, much of the Greek nation turned its back on the party. According to Avramopoulos, New Democracy cannot blame SYRIZA for their defeat, but should recognize mistakes and be self-critical to enhance and improve policy.

There is a lot of turmoil and discontent at the party after losing the elections, many rumors are circling that it is possible the resignation of Antonis Samaras to be demanded on the future congress of the party. The former prime minister said that the congress won’t focus on changing the leadership of the party, clearly indicating he has no intention to step down from the leadership of the right-wing party.
