Athens “dismayed” by the timing of Zaev’s visit to Ankara

-

The Greek government has not hidden their dismay about Prime Minister Zoran Zaev’s “hasty” visit to Ankara, to seek “the public’s support from Turkey”. In Athens, they believe the move will open the door to Turkey’s strong hold in the Balkans, especially during this time when the Greek-Turkish relations are in crisis regarding the Imia Islands, reported the Greek newspaper “Iefimerida”.

Before visiting Ankara, Prime Minister Zaev responded to a journalist’s question that he had been planned to go a long time ago.

According to the newspaper, all indications are that the name “Gorna Macedonia” (meaning “Upper Macedonia”) is being negotiated and that the term “Macedonia” will definitely remain in the country’s name.

Kotzias and Dimitrov will meet on the sidelines of the informal meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries and candidate countries, tomorrow and the day after in Sofia.
