Members of the police force last night were not involved in a police operation in Lipkovo and Aracinovo, but acted preemptively due to the migrant crisis and attempts to illegally cross the border, announced todayoutside the police station in Matejche said Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski.
“Kumanovo-Skopje region should be under increased scrutiny because this region is the north border and there are often illegal crossings”, said Spasovski.
The minister said that this should not create speculation and fear among the population, because the situation is under control.
“There is an increased of police presence on the field because in this period, and in the region we will face challenges due to the refugee crisis. Therefore, there is an increased police presence. I would not like to create rumors and fear among the population because there is no need for that. We have good cooperation with the population in this region and all need should feel reassured because the Interior Ministry has taken all necessary measures”, Spasovski said, adding that his visit to Matejche, his aim was to calm tensions and make sure there was no panic.
Spasovski denied the information that appeared in some of the media that the increased police presence was due to the alleged entry of armed groups from Kosovo, close to the defendants who are now being charged for events in Kumanovo settlement Divo Naselje.
“It is speculation that an armored group has entered the country. As I said previously, everything is for preventive action “, said the Minister of Interior, adding that last night no searches had been conducted.
