I will do everything in my power to prolong the period for filing charges by SPO, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev after exiting the Special Public Prosecution’s offices where he appeared as a witness and he gave a statement for the “Target” case. He stated three possibilities for solving this issue. The first, as he said, can be done through changes to the Law for the SPO at the Parliament with the two-third majority, the second through the Constitutional Court and the last is SPO to be incorporated into a special division as part of the Public Prosecution.
Replying to journalists’ questions, the Prime Minister said that at today’s government session wasn’t discussed the dismissal of the current directors of UBK and BPS and for assigning new personnel. Regarding personnel issues, today on the agenda was only the assigning of Magdalena Nestorovska as MoI’s a new State Secretary and were confirmed the resignations by state secretaries in other ministries who are now empty and should be filled with new, as proposed by the ministers.
Regarding the speculations that Zoran Verushevski could be the new director at UBK, Zaev said that he is meeting all the criteria, but that he would prefer if someone else would take that position i.e. a candidate that would come from the ranks inside, taking into account the serious reforms that should be implemented in the Directorate for Security and Counter-Intelligence.
Regarding the procedure of dismissal of the State Public Prosecutor Marko Zvrlevski, the Prime Minister stressed that as soon as the opinion of the Council of Public Prosecutors and if the government has no other obligations within the procedure, it is ready to be sent to the Parliament.
-As soon as the current Public Prosecutor is dismissed, the Government shall initiate a procedure for assigning a new Public Prosecutor – said Zaev, saying that his personal stance is that the new Public Prosecutor to be an expert, someone who will have the trust among the citizens.
Zaev gave a statement at SPO as a witness in the case of Target and as he said he will remain at disposal and will further give his contribution in order for the scandal with the illegal wiretapping to be solved.
