Zaev and the Western Balkan leaders see the year 2018 as key for going forward towards the EU

-

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and his colleagues from the Western Balkan countries last night took part in an informal meeting on an invitation by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

On his official Facebook profile, Zaev stated that during the meeting it was noted that the region’s leaders see the year 2018 as key for the big step forward for the regional countries towards the EU accession, but also for intensifying the regional cooperation with a maximum support from EU’s instruments.

“The biggest news for the Western Balkans countries in 2017 was the announcement of EU’s Enlargement Strategy by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. The Strategy and its key directions were the main subjects of the discussion” stated the Prime Minister’s Facebook profile.

In his statement, Zaev stressed that all Western Balkans countries look upon this Strategy as a clear signal for them for their European Perspective and that each of the Western Balkans countries should advance on the road towards the EU on basis of the advancement of the reforms in key areas.

This informal meeting presents a continuation of the talks with the High Representative Mogherini with the Balkan leaders dating from May this year when she also gathered them for an informal working dinner.
