Thousands of tourists thronged Ohrid during the Easter holidays. Most common are the guests from the country, especially in Skopje, while from the region, most of them arrived from Greece. It was impressive to experience larger groups of guests who traveled from Thessaloniki to speak in Macedonian.
Numerous guests arrived from Serbia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia and Romania. For the first time there are groups from Israel, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and Poland.
A small group said that arrived from Thailand through Belgrade.
According to estimates of the hotel, between 60 and 70 percent of hotel and catering facilities in the city are filled.
Last night, in the true sense of the word, Ohrid was second, or Balkan Jerusalem. Guests, especially those from the Orthodox world, occupied numerous churches. They stayed until midnight, when the ringing of bells announced the good news of the resurrection of Christ.
Thousands of pilgrims visited churches and monasteries, and the most visited was St Clement’s Church St. Panteleimon in Plaoshnik.
The mass was led by Metropolitan of Debar and Kichevo region Timothy, who congratulated the Easter holidays of many believers.
The believers heard the Easter message of the Head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church Stephen, in which he calls for peace, love and tolerance and keeping faith.
