Belgian facilitator Peter Vanhoutte released a press release to the media titled “Progress in the negotiations on the media.”
He says that today’s meeting of the working groups the main topic of discussion was the law on audio and audiovisual media services, in particular the role and functioning of the Agency.
“During today’s meeting, the working group discusses the Law on audio and audiovisual media services, more precisely the role and functioning of the Agency. The political parties take into consideration all proposals from the consultations with the relevant stakeholders in the process of reaching an agreement. Additionally, from the very beginning of the negotiations on media the mediator Vanhoutte regularly holds consultative meetings with the relevant stakeholders, where they present their opinion and positions, for the purposes of having a legal framework that reflects not only the recommendations from the European
Commission, the Council of Europe and OSCE/ODIHR, but also the demands of the journalists, the journalist’s associations, the Union and all other relevant stakeholders. The negotiations follow the methodology and dynamics established at the very beginning. The political working group meets on a daily basis, discusses one topic until agreement is reached and then proceeds to discussing another topic”, said the statement from Mr Vanhoutte.
