Serbia and Macedonia have been controlling the flow of migrants and refugees by only letting migrants from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan pass through the border, announced today the High Commissioner for the United Nations Refugee Agency, Antonio Guterres. (UNHCR).
UNHCR spokeswoman Melita Shunjic said that other migrants are not allowed to enter and that’s what limits the people coming and going, already several hundred people have accumulated with such cases.
Eyewitnesses at the border between Macedonia and Greece, and “Reuters” have reported that Macedonian police last night began to turn back all migrants who were not from Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan.
“Serbia on Friday at 18:00, started turning people back into Macedonia exept for Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans. Macedonia closed the border around 3:00 am and about 100 people remained in the cross-border area, or what some people know as no-mans land”, says Shunjic.
