The “Student Plenum” have blocked the entrance of the Rectory at UKIM

-

Representatives of the “Student Plenum” at this very moment are blocking the entrance to the Rectory at the University of St Cyril and Methodius (UKIM), where today at 10:00 am a session has been scheduled to elect a new university Rector, reports “Nova TV“.

Students have blocked the entrance for all employees because they claim, the Rector is going to be elected by 10 votes from 10 student representatives who are not legitimate.

They say that the mandate of the representatives of the Student Parliament expired a long time ago and it is necessary to choose legitimate student representatives first, and then elect a new Rector.

While students block the entrance, the current university Rector Velimir Stojkovski and some of the University’s staff are waiting outside the Rectory. Students say they do not intend to give up the boycott.

Beforehand, the”Student Plenum” sent an open letter to the University Senate, in which they urged senators to postpone the elections for a new Rector at least until September or October, so legitimate student representatives can be selected.

The new Rector will be elected among University professors, Nenad Novkovski, and Nikola Jankulovski, who were selected in a narrower circle from six candidates.
