Slovenian PR Marjan Sharec has called upon all companies that are state-owned to think about withdrawing their ads from all media that are spreading hateful content.
“It’s true that media freedom and the freedom of speech are pillars of democracy, but this hardly means they are unlimited,” Šarec wrote in a post published on the government’s website.
In August, the Macedonian government announced that it will stop the government advertising at private media, but it hasn’t decided upon any rules when it comes to advertising on social media and keeps the right to advertise through the national broadcasting service MRT.
Additionally, the Association of Journalists of Macedonia (ZNM) issued a reaction because the Election Code still contains an article that will still allow in the future all public funds to be spent on political advertising by the parties that are campaigning.
