Harsh reactions from Brussels: Juncker didn’t met Gruevski because of the crisis

-

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has canceled the meeting with Prime Minister Gruevski that was to be held in Brussels on Thursday.

Juncker spokeswoman Mina Andreeva briefly confirmed: “We were in contact with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Commissioner Hahn was on the field on 17th, we are in contact with them, and the only thing I can say is that because of developments in the field, it was decided that it was not favorable to hold a meeting at the moment.”

Sources of the European Commission explained for META that President Juncker brought this decision due to the political crisis in the country and the lack of dialogue.

“Our position is clear. The situation in the country is difficult, we said what we think, what’s going on is not well and a real dialogue about the priorities of the country should be initiated. Contacts between EC and Macedonia continue, but we assessed that contact of high level at this time is inappropriate,” said a diplomatic source for META.

The meeting was not postponed, but canceled, confirmed the EC. The purpose of the meeting was the two leaders to get to know each other because there have been no formal contact after Juncker was elected president of the European executive authority.
