Last year, Macedonia and a half went to Greece, and spent a fortune and a half

-

According to recent published figures by the Hellenic Statistical Authority, last year in Greece there were 2.7 million visitors from Macedonia. That is an increase of 26.1 percent from 2014, or approximately 600,000 visits.

In the period from January to September 2015, 2,712,295 visitors entered Greece from Macedonia compared to the 2,151,751 visitors in 2014.

The majority of Macedonian visitors who travel to Greece go by car, last year 2,712,295 tourists entered Greece with a car. The least used mode of transport is by plane with only 262 tourists from Macedonia. Over 2276 visitors travelled by railway and 2.707 Macedonian citizens travelled by sea.

If statistics from the Greek Tourism Federation can be trusted, in 2012 in the duration of 12 months, Macedonians spent 550 million euros in Greece, and now with an increase of 26 percent, it turns out that last year, nearly a billion euros were spent in the neighbouring country, which is one third of Macedonia’s budget.
