Kodzias suggested Poposki to adopt confidence building measures

-

Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki had a meeting with his Greek counterpart Nikos Kodzias on the sidelines of the informal meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Riga. This is the first meeting of Poposki and Kodzias after the new government of SYRIZA was formed. The two ministers discussed the negotiations within the United Nations, our membership in the EU and NATO, and, according to Greek media, Kodzias “specifically addressed the issue of irredentist tendencies” of the Macedonian Government.

“Kodzias especially emphasized that it is necessary there to be rule of law, peaceful interethnic relations, regional stability, respect of good neighborly relations and avoiding irredentism,” reads the statement from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Poposki was “particularly warned about problems with irredentism.”

“In order to deal with irredentist policy, Kodzias pointed out to Poposki he plans to propose to the Government in the neighboring state to adopt confidence building measures, as another step on the goodwill of the Greek side,” reads the statement.

Although details about what would these measures be still lack, the first information from the Ministry were to think in terms of measures related to school books and maps.
