Juncker-Zaev: North Macedonia is ready to start EU accession negotiations

During the meeting with President Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, we learned that the European Commission in its reporting of the past 5 year mandate, placed North Macedonia and its success on the list of the 20 biggest achievements of the European Union for this period, announced Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at a press conference in Brussels.

He also said that North Macedonia is ready to start negotiations and now it’s up to member states of the European Union and its institutions.

“At the same time, the opening of negotiations for our EU accession is the only guarantee for maintaining any domestic stability and for maintaining the reformatory impulse in the country, with positive effects for the entire Western Balkan region”, stressed Prime Minister Zaev.

Juncker also stressed that North Macedonia is ready for the next step, commencing negotiations and that he will always defend the country and his stance.

The EU Commissioner Hahn stressed that the country has met all of the tasks that were demanded of it and now it is up to the European Council to fulfill its promise from last year and to confirm a date for the opening of the chapters.
