IRI: The big number of undecided voters can decrease the ruling coalition’s lead

-

While the polls show a victory for the ruling parties VMRO-DPMNE and DUI, the widespread pessimism and the significant percentage of undecided voters that the research is indicating about, can decrease the coalition’s advantage and potentially to disrupt their relations, as is said in the pre-election observatory report by the International Republican Institute (IRI).

According to IRI, the voter turnout will be more than 60%.

“The observing mission of OSCE and HRIM has reported “a number of allegations of pressure on public employees to support specific parties,” although the pre-election atmosphere has been calm. The next government will need to take steps to restore public confidence in the political system, as the electorate’s faith in the integrity of Macedonian democracy has been negatively affected by the political crisis of the past two years. It is expected that the election will enable Macedonia’s political environment to stabilize, as was said in IRI’s report.

The Institute also reminds that the elections will happen as a result of a political agreement that was accomplished with the assistance of the EU and the USA, and are being looked to as evidence that the political situation in Macedonia is stabilizing.
