The early settlement of the debt to the International Monetary Fund of 174 million dollars and today’s return of 25 million euros taken from public records show that Macedonia has a stable macroeconomic situation, because the budget is stable, and country’s debt was reduced to 34.9 percent of GDP, which is one of the lowest in Europe.
This was stated by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski while answering reporters’ questions after today’s awarding of employment decisions of children without parents, stressing that Macedonia is settling its debt early for the second time.
– Even in 2007 and in 2008 made a major step forward in the early settlement of the debt. Then we had a lot of criticism from the opposition, and now, as I can see, they are silent. In that time we were criticized that it was not a smart move, but then it helped us a lot during the global and financial crisis. Now we are making the same step again and with it, the country’s debt has been reduced to 34.9 percent of GDP, which is one of the lowest public debts in Europe. The settlement of the debt was 174 million dollars, thus fully completing this obligation we had to IMF – stated the Prime Minister.
