The Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn will attend tomorrow the informal meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Western Balkans Six in the Albanian city of Durrës.
The European Commission states that the focus of the meeting will be on boosting the implementation of the commitments taken at the Trieste Summit in July 2017, especially the action plan on the deepening of regional economic integration.
-The Regional Economic Area agreed at the Trieste Summit will provide new opportunities for businesses and citizens alike and strengthen growth and jobs. The next concrete steps include the mutual recognition of professional qualifications, identifying and scrapping red tape and regulatory barriers that impede trade and investment in the region, setting up a regional dialogue on digital transformation, and launching negotiations on a dispute settlement mechanism – said the EC’s press release.
Brussels have repeated that the Commission gives a strong support for the Western Balkans’ regional cooperation as an integral part of their EU accession perspective.
– That support can be seen through substantial investments in connecting infrastructure, economies and people within the region itself and between the Western Balkans’ region and the European Union – concludes EC.
At tomorrow’s informal meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Western Balkans Six, it will also be attended by the President of the Macedonian government, Zoran Zaev.
Apart from the Prime MInister of the regional governments and the Euro Commissioner, Hahn, the meeting at Duress will be attended by the Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, Cyril Muller including representatives of the Chamber investment forum, the first joint institution that was founded by regional economic chambers.
