Constitutional judges scheduled their next session for May 31 will consider the initiative on the constitutionality and legality of the decision to build the cross in Butel, which sparked tensions late February and early March this year.
The consideration of this initiative is the 11th item on the agenda of the daily session.
Although the Constitutional Court’s information does not specifically state that the initiative involves the construction of the cross in Butel and who filed the motion, however according to the date, which is precisely on 23 February on its 39th session, the Municipal Council decided to build the “Urban Cross on the pedestal of a micro-location of the roundabout. ”
The cross was donated by the World Macedonian Congress (WMC).
Setting up the cross caused tensions after DUI members and their supporters set up camp opposite the construction site of the cross, and the World Macedonian Congress responded with counter-protests. The President of the World Macedonian Congress Todor Petrov was physically attacked, the day after the cornerstone was consecrated.
