The Ministry of Finance: SEC’s budget reduced because there is no date for elections

-

The budget for the SEC is set to be reduced because of the absence of a precise date for elections, the Ministry of Finance has said after reports became public, showing that the proposal re-balance of the budget will cut the State Election Commissions funding by 400 million denars.

From the beginning of the year, it has been estimated that the SEC would receive more than 531 million denars, it now seems the SEC will be left with a budget of only 104 million denars.

“When the budget was being put together and was adopted for 2016, the Electoral Code had a date for elections. Now that date has gone, and the funds are being re-allocated, but if you schedule the elections for the third time this year, funding will be provided”, the Ministry responded to a question by “Meta” concerning the reason for the excessive trimming of the SEC budget.
