Tenders and bids may delay the Special Public Prosecutor

Political parties who have signed the Przhino Agreement have another day to select the special public prosecutor and the legal framework for the voting process in Parliament.

According to information obtained by “Meta”, last night there was an adjustment in the negotiations, and the spears become ready for battle over the number of deputy prosecutors there ought to be.

Belgian facilitator Peter Van Houte put forward a first draft proposal, which was put together by the working group from SDSM regarding the law of how the selection should be conducted.

One thing remains the same , and that is tomorrow’s deadline for the selection of the Special Prosecutor who, under the Przino Agreement should be selected by the deadline, the 15th of September. He will have full autonomy to lead the investigation of the case “Phone -tapping” and “Putsch”.

The first dilemma, according to lawyer Oliver Vuksanovic is the application of existing legislation for the election of a prosecutor, which indicates that all candidates must have completed the Academy of Judges and the Bar exam for Public Prosecutors, as well as the Faculty of Law and Bar exam.

It is still unclear what the financial structure will be for the administration, and who will pay for the accountants, staff, computer equipment, etc.

“Also, this new institution will need sophisticated equipment, computers, cameras and so on… They will need fleets of cars, however this will come in the form a tender, where various business and groups can bid for the tender”, said Mr Vuksanovic.

Whether this tender will slow the process of selection or not, remains to be seen.
