Both SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE celebrate, while major upheavals occurred in the Albanian bloc

The two leading political parties in the Macedonian bloc, SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE tonight both declared victory in the early parliamentary elections and called for celebrations.

“On behalf of the central headquarters of the SDSM, we urge you all to come out to the Government to celebrate this great victory”, said tonight Stefan Bogoev from the SDSM.

Later on in the night, the VMRO-DPMNE also urged people to come out into the city squares and celebrate the 10th victory of the party.

“We thank you and we would like to invite the members of VMRO-DPMNE and members of our coalition partners and the citizens of Macedonia, to come out into the city squares! We won, our 10th jubilee. We had an enemy that is not only SDSM so let’s gather in front of VMRO-DPMNE headquarters at 23:30. From Skopje and the surrounding areas, come outside the headquarters of VMRO-DPMNE”, said Gjorchev.

However, during the celebration outside the Government, SDSM came up with a new figure, and claimed that the result is a tie 51:51.

If this is repeated with the official data from the SEC, the formation of a new government will be particularly difficult, and will likely depend on which of the Albanian parties won the majority and with whom they will want to join in a coalition.

There have been major upheavals and regrouping in the Albanian political block, as DUI lost many of their voters as a large number of votes went to other Albanian parties.

Unofficially, while awaiting the election results at VMRO-DPMNE headquarters, members of the ruling party commented and analysed that a likely victory will be tight and this time due to the fragmentation of the Albanian bloc, similar to the small difference between the Macedonian parties. There may be possible new elections in spring, held along with the regular local elections.
